2014-15 Reward School

Robert Treat Academy has been named a Reward School for the 4th consecutive year!  A Reward School is a school with outstanding student achievement or growth over the past three years.

Mission Statement

Robert Treat Academy serves students in general education, students with disabilities and English language learners. The Academy offers children ages five and older an opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and stimulating academic environment in which the core subjects of language arts, mathematics, science, technology, social science and world language are bonded to the values of self-worth, respect for one another, one’s community, state and nation.  Students, parents, staff and adult community members will each play critical roles in the Academy, a total involvement institution.  Parental participation, year-round learning and cultural experiences will demonstrate to all that success, hope and perseverance are habits just as caring, compassion and fairness are habits.  The Academy nurtures a total commitment to high academic standards, socially acceptable behavior and the recognition that all individuals are created equal and must be given an equal educational opportunity.

Stephen N. Adubato Campus

New Jersey joined the nation's twelve-year old charter school movement with the passage of the Charter School Program Act of 1996.  On January 15, 1997, the North Ward Center received word that its application for the Robert Treat Academy Charter School had been approved.  The Academy became the first charter school in the state to begin operation when it opened its doors on September 4, 1997.

One hundred children in Kindergarten and first grade formed the inaugural group of students who began classes in our first building on Mount Prospect Avenue.  Since then, a grade was added each year, and we moved to our present facility in 2001.  In 2004, when the eighth grade was added, we reached our full enrollment with 450 students.  A new wing, the Fine Arts Pavilion, was added to complete our facility.

We were named a 2008 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School by U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings for helping students achieve at very high levels and for making significant progress in closing the achievement gap.  The No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools that are either academically superior or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement to high levels.
